Our Editorial Process

Evidence, not hype.

How we research, write, and fact-check what we tell you

Sōma is built around practices that affect how you feel, focus, sleep, breathe, and respond to stress. We take the science behind those practices seriously.

Our editorial process is simple: research the evidence, understand its limits, and communicate it without exaggeration.

How we research

We start with scientific literature, not wellness trends. Depending on the topic, we prioritize:

When possible, we link directly to the original research rather than relying on articles that summarize it.

Not all evidence carries the same weight. We consider the study design, sample size, population, outcomes, limitations, and whether findings have been replicated.

How we turn research into content

Research does not automatically translate into a recommendation. Before making a claim, we ask:

What does the evidence actually show?

We distinguish measured outcomes from interpretation.

How strong is the evidence?

A large body of consistent research is different from a single small or preliminary study.

Who was studied?

Findings from one population may not apply to everyone.

What are the limitations?

We include relevant limitations when they change how a finding should be understood.

What can we reasonably say?

We use language that reflects the evidence — may help, is associated with, research suggests — rather than turning uncertainty into certainty.

What we don't do

Who creates Sōma content

Sōma content is developed by our editorial team using scientific and clinical literature.

Our team is not a substitute for licensed healthcare professionals. Sōma content is educational and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent medical conditions.

When a topic involves a higher level of clinical risk — including mental health symptoms, sleep disorders, or acute distress — we make those boundaries clear and encourage appropriate professional care where relevant.

We keep it current

Science changes. Our content should change with it.

We periodically review published content and update it when important evidence, recommendations, or scientific understanding changes.

When we update an article, we revisit the claims — not just the wording — to make sure the content still reflects the available evidence.

Have a question about a claim?

If you think we've missed an important study, misrepresented evidence, or made a claim that needs clarification, we'd like to hear from you.
